Vickie Vainionpää is a Canadian artist who bridges the world of digital processing and traditional painting. In her recent series of tubular forms called “Soft Body Dynamics” Vainionpää uses 3D software to randomly generate different spline formations and uses different methods like Google AI to choose color palettes before translating them into oil paintings.

I find this very interesting because she plays with the intersection of the natural and the artificial; processed and handmade. I like how she lets the computer start the process and she transforms/transcribes it bringing it to life. In her own words she calls the computer  “both a practical tool and a creative collaborator.”

Wow! Her paintings are so dynamic! They almost remind me of depictions of protein folding, or some other weird molecular interactions.
