Although I am not a gamer and never played League of Legends, I did recently watch Arcane with my League friends and I gotta say the animation style was so unique and you definitely do not have to have played League to enjoy the show! I was super intrigued by the paint-like animation style and wanted to know the who, hows, and whys. The article linked above explains Fortiche’s (the animation studios) process.

There was so much attention to details: lighting, “camera” movements, characters, color, outfits, facial expressions, backgrounds, etc. Although the style is 2D x 3D and very illustration-like, the characters feel real. Even from an objective standpoint of never having played the game, I appreciated the animation and the story line even got me hooked. After talking to my friends, they were also delighted on how the characters, backgrounds, and weapons evolved from the game. Fortiche seems to successfully translate League and brought it to life through collaborating at each step with the game artists and creators while making sure to instill their own style to create such an interesting balance.

Looks like an interesting watch! I’d love to watch it as a way to celebrate the end of the semester!
