I think these are pretty amazing photos, especially since they depict scenes that are so familiar to me! This is a great post showcasing the lives 2nd generation Asians in the West 😀

I really really resonate with these photos, being a second-generation Chinese Canadian from Vancouver. Chinatown in Vancouver is truly not a lot to look at when you’re actually there, and I think a lot of the cultural and historical significance is lost to the buzz of the city. A lot of Chinatown is actually being lost to modern infrastructure and building projects, and there’s actually a huge push right now in the Vancouver Chinese community to stop the de-sizing of the location. The work these photographers are doing is critical in preserving the heritage of the area and reminding us of how important this place was for the initial wave of Asian Americans immigrating to the west coast from afar.
