Starting Nov.10, Levi’s, the cult-favorite denim clothes brand, will partner up with the online fashion resale platform Depop to welcome creativity in the remaking of vintage Levi’s jeans and jackets. This event will be held in Australia and New Zealand, where Depop stores will open to sell a limited-edition run of customized vintage Levi’s products in various sizing. This event echoes Levi’s global Buy Better, Wear Longer campaign, which features Jaden Smith, Emma Chamberlain, Marcus Rashford, etc.
Trent Bos, head of marketing at Levi’s Australia New Zealand says “We want to encourage everyone to buy better and wear longer. Breathing new life into old garments, while remaining timeless and relevant in both fit and style, is just one of the ways that you can contribute to more sustainable fashion. We hope that this partnership can help to spark creativity in all of us to upcycle our clothes currently hanging dormant in our wardrobes and to ultimately help accelerate more sustainable living to create a better world of tomorrow.”

I love this post! I’ve never really considered where clothes come from or where they’ll end up while I’m buying items to wear. However, recently, I learned of the business corruption, treatment of factory workers and other factors that go into making products. It made Jaden’s mention of overconsumption even more critical when you think of the repercussions of our actions as a whole. People do constantly want the newest items and our generation deals with anxiety of what others will think even more so now than in the past. Social media has taken over our creativity and urges people to compete by matching others. However, this “matching” stunts creative growth because many don’t even begin to think of how they can up-cycle the clothes they already have. How they can create new things and start a trend. In the future, I hope to see more creative and original ways of doing fashion amongst everyone.
