I found this article about airport designs and thought it was really interesting. I always thought that having to go through Duty Free shopping after security to get to the gates was a very smart idea as it forces passengers to walk past shops with candy, travel essentials, beauty products and technology and more often than not, this leads to them shopping to kill time before their flight. This particularly stuck out to me when I flew home for thanksgiving. Due to COVID, airports had to shut down most of their restaurants, cafes and shops; this meant that I had no other way to kill time than to sit by my gate. This made waiting for my flight feel a lot longer than normal.
