The other day, I read this article about how architects in the US are beginning to design “healthier” buildings to help people feel safe indoors during the current pandemic. Already around 4,900 projects in more than 60 countries are currently in some stage of the voluntary WELL certification process. Designers are tracking changes in how people interact with buildings and trying to see how they can help make the indoors healthier in preparation for the cold weather. “The built environment is a first line of defense in a pandemic – it makes the difference between whether you get a disease that will kill you or not,” said the president of the International WELL Building Institute. I find it very interesting how important the designs of these potential buildings are.

It is interesting to see that COVID-19 has even shaped architecture and how these architects interpret buildings defined as ‘healthy’.

Really interesting, I never thought about the way that architecture would change as a result of the pandemic since it seems like such a permanent thing that already exists, or needs to be planned for years in advance. I think it’s definitely a smart move, considering I can’t even imagine being in a crowded space the way I used to, anytime in the near future!
