My group for the intervention project is planning a projection artwork, so I wanted to look into how other artists have used the medium to comment on social issues. This article from 2017 discusses how projections have evolved as an alternative to graffiti, allowing artists to post protest messages in public spaces. The rise in this type of artwork is largely due to the fact that outdoor projectors have become much less expensive and easier to use. Here are some impactful projection pieces:

Projection by Ashton Worthington & George Del Barrio. Reads “RESIST” followed by a series of other words. 9th Street, Brooklyn, New York. Gif by Corinne Segal and Lisa Overton.
Projection by Robin Bell. Washington, DC. Photo by Liz Gorman.
Projection by activist group The Illuminator. Image of Edward Snowden projected onto ash. Brooklyn, New York. Photo courtesy of The Illuminator.
Projection of George Floyd on the Robert E. Lee monument in Richmond, Virginia during Black Lives Matter protest*
