A bridge made from the roots of rubber trees, in the village of Mawlynnong, India. Indigenous and ancient architectural practices are having a revival as people reconsider the failures of Modern design.

I recently came across this article by Nikil Saval that explores how design is a profession “most concerned with the future,” the boundaries of design, how artists have reckoned with the predicament of how to “design for the future when the future you are designing for will not exist,” and how design can be “both highly relevant and professionally incapable of long-term thinking.” This article particularly struck me because it shows you how prevalent and impactful design is in our world. As Saval notes, “If design is to be about how we live better, it also has to be about how we survive.”
