Another post about the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The museum has been closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, just recently opening its doors again. I got the chance to go this weekend, so I wanted to highlight one of the installations I really enjoyed that also connects to our class.

Faults Lines features artworks from 6 artists: all women, all born in South Asia, and most still active today. (The representation of non-white, non-male voices is unfortunately very rare at museums like PMA.) The artworks deal with ideas and questions about “memory, home, and belonging” through abstract forms.

One of the artists, Tanya Goel, does work with indigo, which she explains in this short video:

A timelapse of her piece installed at PMA, a good example of an artwork where the materials (industrial indigo and pulverized bricks) and process (using a snap line, typically used for measurement in construction) are equally as important if not moreso than the visual impact itself:

The installation is open until October 25; if you are in the Philly area I highly recommend checking it out!
