For several years now, I have noticed a growing wave of artists that make surrealist collages that mix elements of nature and anatomy. One such artist goes by @ekayyne, and seamlessly blends images of stunning landscapes with parts of his subjects bodies.
In the past, I have wondered what the purpose of such collages was. After all, do they do more than simply look aesthetically pleasing? However, I can’t help but notice how his work specifically highlights parts of our bodies that we often overlook or seek to hide: stretch marks, skin rolls, cellulite, scars.
Perhaps, then, in mixing these images with ones of breathtaking landscapes, his message is that just as we marvel at nature in its original form, we should see our bodies, in all their imperfection, as equally worthy of awe.
