OK, admittedly, this has nothing to do with what we’re learning, but when I saw these pieces on thisiscolossal.com, I couldn’t resist sharing them to the blog. These pieces are by Ava Roth. I highly suggest you check out her instagram for more of her artworks that are not featured in the article but are really beautiful.
What’s remarkable about these pieces is that Roth has actually constructed custom frames that she places her embroideries into that the bees can also happily inhabit and build honeycomb around. These are artworks that have involved two different species to create; I’ve never really heard of anything quite like that. I think her use of natural materials (chosen for conceptual and practical reasons as explained in the article) is really successful because there isn’t a stark visual contrast between her work and the bee’s work, and it seems informed by the environmental justice implications of the work.
These pieces demand for us to “save the bees” in a very unique way.

Wow! I’m seeing this so late but this is possibly some of the coolest art I’ve ever seen, for my taste and interest personally of course.
