As a data viz enthusiast, I ask myself often: is data art? The reading, The Six Steps by McCloud offers one answer: yes. If the human function doesn’t directly serve for our survival or reproduction, then it’s art. And as I delve deeper into data visualization blogs, it’s undeniable that a well-crafted data visualization is more than a representation of numbers: it is a story which evokes emotions and reactions just as would a classical painting or a well-designed computer graphic.
