I recently came to know the company Masterworks. It is the first company that allows investors to buy and trade shares in multi-million dollar masterpieces created by world-renowned artists. The company’s mission is to democratize the art world by making high-end art investment accessible to everyone. I think this is an interesting concept that can get more people interested in the art. I believe that this is especially the case for people who do not already have a strong interest in art. Being able to buy and trade a share of the artwork may get people more interested and engaged.
On a separate note, I’m surprised to learn that the performance of the investment return of contemporary art since 2020 exceeds that of S&P 500 according to data from the company.
