In recent classes, we have discussed how COVID has changed how people experience artworks. Though viewing an art piece on one’s computer or mobile phone is never the same experience as appreciating it at the art museum, there have been various initiatives that try to make viewing artworks at home a better and more interesting experience.
The Met’s Digital Department has made the museum’s entire collection of more than 406,000 Open Access images easy to transport into Animal Crossing, Nintendo’s popular life-simulation game. The artworks can be placed in a gallery of your very own: the sizable, virtual museum in the game.
The following is a link on how to set this up and some sample displays.
