This is a far cry from the usual political design work I post about, but I wanted to write about Taylor Swift’s album rebranding. For those of you who haven’t been on Twitter (or any social media, frankly) lately, Taylor Swift re-released her old album Fearless with both re-recorded and completely new tracks. While this meant we would get new new versions of her old songs, it also meant a new version of her old album cover — that classic, early 2000s style revitalized. Personally, I think she struck a good balance between tacky design and nostalgia.

While the promotional sparkles may not fit with Taylor’s more minimal aesthetic now, the color palette and elongated font are a good synthesis of the old and new album covers. I think the track list design specifically feels like it could have been released in either era, with subtle drop shadows on wide lettering.

I really like the new album cover, and to be honest, the album in general! The sepia effect definitely creates a sense of nostalgia.
