I have never been a person who understood the hype around iPads. They always seemed like an awkward in-between piece of technology that was not quite a computer but also was much bigger than a phone. Recently, I had the opportunity to play around with the Apple Pencil as a way of drawing on an iPad. I learned to draw using a pencil and paper and always thought that would be my preferred method but as I have learned more about designing and creating with technology throughout the semester, I was curious to see what new techniques this technology could open up for me. I found that using software such as illustrator or photoshop on an iPad allowed me to have so much more precision than using my computer. It allowed my lines to be crisp, my lasso-ing images to have no flaws, and gave me a new way to explore programs that I had not tried before. While I still think the imperfections that come in using these softwares without all the precision adds character to my work, I also think that this technology opens up huge new places for designers to explore.
