Someone showed me this game recently, by Nicky Case. It seems to be a simple, web-based game about taking photographs of the characters.
This game, although simple in its art style, hints to a deeper meaning. Although I’d certainly exercise caution before playing, just because it does depict some especially graphic things at the end, I think this does a very good job at showcasing the effect mass media has on society.
They determine what sells and what doesn’t, and in often cases, violence and disagreement sells more than happiness and agreement. Try it out by playing the game and see the game’s reactions to taking pictures of happy things versus more emotionally-charged negative things (anger).

First off, the sound effects in this game were so random haha. But as I delve deeper into what this game is trying to say, I come to realize that what it is trying to say. In addition to your points made in your post, I find that it also questions the real motivations of mainstream media: is it committed to informing, or simply chasing higher ratings?
