Saw this on reddit. Why isn’t there dark mode for canvas?
Dark mode is one of those little things that has absolutely no meaning being this significant, but it actually took the world by storm. Do a “dark mode” search on Google. You’ll be shocked to see the number of extensions there are to convert your everyday apps to “dark mode” equivalents. There are also countless articles like this that talk about setting up dark mode on literally every possible app. Companies like Google, Facebook, etc have spent months of development and testing for this “dark” mode. What for? Seems a bit weird that the smartest people in these tech powerhouses are working features that change your background color from white to black…
The real question is, how long till canvas has dark mode?

I believe that Dark Modes were developed to reduce light emitted from screens – so that means that in addition to perhaps reducing power required to light up our pixels, it is also easier on our eyes while still maintaining contrast and legibility – so I know that I would DEFINITELY appreciate a Canvas dark mode – great idea!

I really like dark mode since it makes looking at the screen for hours a lot easier, especially at night. I hadn’t noticed that canvas didn’t have that feature, but I totally agree that they should definitely add it soon!

Given that Canvas is software that schools, once locked in, have to pay an extremely high cost to transition away from, Canvas doesn’t seem to be the quickest company to innovate and improve on their UI. While a lot of tech companies live the “Move fast and break things” mentality, Canvas likely puts stability as a priority. At the same time, it is a feature that definitely needs to be added ASAP.
