We’ve all seen 3D images, movies, and art. But, I personally have never heard of 8D or 9D music. Essentially, these higher “dimensional” music apply post-production processes to audio, giving it a different feeling. 8D music involves panning the audio from left to right, as if the sound were moving around your head. 9D music goes further to separate the beat and vocals from each other, adding yet another layer of post-production effects. Here are a few examples from a few moments of browsing (headphones encouraged):
It’s not super fancy – all that’s done for the most part is apply an effect to move the audio from one end to the other. However, it gives off a completely different feeling – one that feels more dynamic. A big theme of this course has been achieving some dimensional effect from flat, simple structures. We don’t typically associate the word “dimension” with music (or I personally don’t), but I found this really cool!
