Yesterday, I was browsing through my Facebook feed when I stumbled upon an ad for Enchroma glasses. For some context, Enchroma makes glasses that supposedly help those with color deficiencies see “color”. Curious (and bored), I took the test, wanting to see they had to say about my color receptors.
This result wasn’t surprising to me – but what got my attention were the glasses they were selling. Those glasses have (apparently) helped many people with color deficiencies see more color – as shown by numerous videos of people shocked after putting on these glasses.
This must be an eye-opening (literally!) experience. Color, in many ways, is a language since we associate color with emotions and feelings. Red can symbolize love or blood, green symbolizes good luck and health, blue is a generally relaxing color, etc. If someone has already gotten used to viewing “fewer” colors, with these glasses, do they suddenly feel “more emotion”? Or are these colors just “there” – and the gradient of emotion shifts to adjust for this? I’m not quite sure, but it’s cool to think about!

This is so cool and I think I have seen ads for it! At my old art studio, there were quite a few guys who were red-green or blue-yellow colorblind and would ask for help identifying and mixing these shades when they needed them. Would you ever want to try these glasses? :O
