way back in the day i promised to make a blog post about chinese moveable type so here i am! i found this very dramatic 5 minute video which claims that this studio in zhejiang province is solely responsible for keeping the wooden moveable type tradition alive in china today. i thought it was cool to see Wang Chaohui, the man in the video, go through the process of carving, inking, and printing. kind of reminds me of the common press on Penn’s campus, which tries to keep this historical tradition alive + sees the process as one of art-making.
