I came across this TikTok account by accident–Jose Manchado is a photographer based in Spain, but I think he became popular on Tiktok for ‘animating’ static paintings much in the way that we did with puppet warp in Photoshop for our Dada Composites. His animations have since become much more elaborate, but I think essentially he started by ‘moving’ the people in paintings, sometimes recreating backgrounds, and adding sounds that would make sense for the context of the artwork. It’s not the first time I’ve seen artwork ‘animated’–Snapchat filters has done it, and there are apps/websites that do it if you ‘identify’ the individual facial features on any photo you upload–but I really like the added element of sound and think it’s a fun account to scroll through.
