Yves Saint Laurent is my favorite brand, partly because my favorite kpop idol Blackpink Rose is the global ambassador for Saint Laurent but also because I love Saint Laurent’s quality and design. Although for basic tops and pants, I would prefer cheaper end of the products, I prefer quality over quantity for some products such as handbags or makeup products. Even if I can not make frequent purchases due to the expensive price, I love looking at different designs they offer. Fashion is definitely art, and I got curious as to understanding the philosophy behind these fashion works.
YSL distinguished himself from other well-established brands such as Channel and Dior by creating modern classics. As a designer, YSL embraced the idea of contrast – masculinity and feminism, highbrow and lowbrow and the classic and the modern.
He selected a powerful image with the women wearing a suit fit by taking traditionally male silhouettes and shifting them onto womenswear. With this bold introduction, YSL set the image as daring, powerful fashion wear. I really think fashion is the combination of tactics, art and creativity. It is hard to create something new, let alone creating a unique fashion brand with the need to come up with new fashion lines in a timely manner.

Yves Saint Laurent is one of my favorite fashion brands out there. YSL’s former creative director, Hedi Slimane, had a great impact on the fashion industry during his 4-year directorship. He is a French photographer and fashion designer. From 2000 to 2007, he held the position of creative director for Dior Homme and then served as the CD of YSL from 2012 to 2016. Since February 1, 2018, Slimane has been the creative, artistic, and image director of Celine.
