As an artist we hold many powers, but one significant one is to think critically and creatively to problem solve. This article explores how designers have created eco-friendly packaging to help keep the environment clean. Today, brands strive to be more sustainable with their materials and packaging. In the following article, everything from the visual lay out to the composition is taken into consideration by these designers to ultimately reduce pollution in consumer products. It forces an interesting question that we can pose to ourselves as artists–how can my skills benefit my community?
There will always be obstacles for designers in such cases. For example, sustainable materials are more costly. With an issue of cost, however, comes a hierarchy of status. Recent trends have made sustainable brands, items, and support more “popular”. In terms of the environment, this popularity is beneficial, but not inclusive for all. It poses an interesting challenge in the prevailing efforts behind sustainability.
