As I was brainstorming and researching ideas for how I want to direct my ‘Alternative Clock’ project, I came across David McCandless’ Information is Beautiful website. McCandless turns complex data sets into beautiful and simple diagrams that allow us as viewers to perceive patterns and connections that might not be seen by only looking at numbers.
The visualizations cover a wide range of topics, including finance, science & health, food & drink, and ideas & perception. Some of my personal favorite visualizations are Wikipedia’s Lamest Edit Wars, Silicon Valley’s Most Contagious Ideas, and World’s Best Hangover Cures.
All of the data is publicly available, so anyone, including us, can go in to filter, sort, and present the in innovative ways. Feel free to have a look through ‘Information is Beautiful’ (https://informationisbeautiful.net/) yourself! You will definitely be inspired!
