This article reminded me of our reading from last week, Citizen Designer, which reflected on how abstraction versus imagery affect how we understand art’s purpose and how we approach it. The author argues that abstract art creates distance between the artist and their audience and is disconnected from its environment while imagery is full of content and can be controversial. The artist featured in the article, Ilse D’Hollander, worked on creating art that was both abstract and figurative to show that the two forms of art don’t have to and shouldn’t be separate from each other.
