Minimalism has become ubiquitous with the 21st century. From interior design, to plating in high-end restaurants, to modern art, it’s all become about minimalism. The idea is to do more with less and it’s a trend that clothing brands in particular adhere to.
In class, in the presentation on Barbara Kruger, we learned the origin behind Supreme’s classic minimalist branding, but even with many other clothing brands, minimalism has become the ideal. So much of the clothing people wear today is either a solid color, or a solid color with a single logo on it.
For example, I took this screenshot from the website PacSun, a popular clothing company based in Southern California:
What I immediately noticed in this image is that each of the shirts in it are extremely simple with a solid color and the Champion logo. Nevertheless, they’re still very popular, and I myself have a sweatshirt in the same style.
In the 21st century, minimalism, in a way, become a symbol of what is contemporary, and often what is luxurious. It’s an interesting trend, but it’s one that looks like it will remain for years to come.
