Thinking about last night’s presentation on Wangechi Mutu and wanted to post for those of you who may be interested, information on episode 7 of Lovecraft Country and its relationship to “Afrofuturism”. Generally, this show is amazing if you have not watched it. This particular episode is especially beautiful and powerful. It is not for the faint of heart but, I guess, neither is being black in America.
“Afrofuturism is a new name for ancient ideas from the Akan, Congolese, and Dogon peoples of Africa that have been remixed and revised by African Americans since the 19th century. Most importantly, Afrofuturism is so much more than Black folks in the future; it is a theory of time which is not linear but conflated. The past, present, and future coexist as one and time begins to take on a cyclical nature.” https://thegrapevine.theroot.com/the-safe-negro-guide-to-lovecraft-country-i-am-1845210408

After doing research on Afrofuturism, it is so cool to actually view/understand books, shows (like this one), and paintings with a more informed mindset!
