April Bey is an artist and educator who is most known for her mixed media art that creates dialogue about American pop culture, Black feminism, and afrofuturism.

In the spirit of the upcoming Dada project we have, I wanted to talk about April Bey. I have been following Bey’s work for years as her mixed media images have gained a lot of attention. Her work has been featured in numerous galleries and represented as murals. She utilizes different mediums in her work including fabric, photos, wood, etc. This is what makes her work so versatile is the ability to mix different mediums that speak to a larger story. She uses images of a lot of famous women like Beyonce, Michaela Cole, and Issa Rae to speak to themes of black feminism and identity politics.
