In the midst of a chaotic pandemic, museums that have been running solely on funds and ticket fees faced a detrimental challenge as more people chose to cut out the unnecessary visit to public areas due to covid-19.

This article explains that like many other museums, Brooklyn Museum has begun its process of deaccession which means that they are selling their Monet, Miro, Degas, etc. paintings in order to collect funds to support themselves. This is their second deaccession attempt, and they estimate $12 million in total for this deaccession. They wish to raise $40 million in total to support the workers, maintenance fee, and etc.. It is truly disappointing to see museums suffer and the negative impacts the pandemic has brought today.

This is truly sad and wish there were more measures in place to protect artists in our country. However, I have also read the Baltimore Museum of Art is selling their artwork so they can afford to put effective diversity and inclusion measures in place https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/02/arts/design/baltimore-museum-deaccessioning.html
