Demon Slayer is undoubtedly one of the most popular animes of our modern generation, with many often citing the visual animation aesthetics as one of the main contributors for its success. Unlike older animes like Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, and the Studio Ghibli franchise, that are all produced using solely hand-drawn animation techniques, Demon Slayer is extremely unique in it’s combined use of traditional hand-drawn animation and computer-generated graphics. This unprecedented practice and high production quality is unlike other popular animes, and thus creates strikingly beautiful imagery, especially in the battle scenes which often use a dark background contrasted with a colorful subject and their even-more vibrant elemental breathing technique. The captivating effect of the visuals was the first thing that immediately drew me toward the series, with the seamless transition between frames in this style making the show appear as if it’s a perfectly moving manga. After all this, I can confidently say that I have nothing but respect for the animation industry and the countless hours animators for Demon Slayer put in to create such a gorgeous and enticing form of media.

My friend watched Demon Slayer a couple weeks ago, and he knows I love art, even if I don’t personally watch anime often, so he was talking to me about how detailed and beautiful the graphics are. We watched a scene together so he could show me what he meant – it was when they defeat the two demons, brother and sister, but in that sequence, there was a really beautiful clip of a huge, all-consuming fire. It was captivating. I cannot believe real people drew that, and I totally agree – I have so, so much respect for animators, it’s insane.
