Web development has always been an interest of mine, but I never actually got into it until college applications rolled around. I needed a website that would not only be able to showcase my musical background, but also portray my eye for design and ability to code. Though I had a background in HTML and CSS, I knew that that was not enough to get a website that felt and looked like how I wanted it. Having a friend who was super into development, particularly with React.js, I looked to him for help.
I first designed my website in Figma — looks were at the top of my priorities. I knew exactly what I wanted to show off, and how I wanted it to feel. It was also essential for me to have every single picture on the website one that I had taken — just to make it feel more personal. I used this philosophy in the Dada Composite as well.
After the prototype, I had to get working. I coded the entire shell using React — I had taken an online bootcamp in React and had some idea of how to get it working.
Gatsby.js came in handy as well, as it made everything much, much easier to design. After a month of hard work, thanks to the power of Netlify, my website was up. Feel free to check it out!
