The legacy of Serena Williams will forever be remembered. She is considered the greatest tennis player among the women through all eras. She has the most Grand Slam victories in the open era. But the tennis legend is also known to speak her mind and clearly articulate her views on racism and standing up for what she believes in. She doesn’t just do this with interviews and press conferences. Along with the interviews and press conferences, she shows support for certain beliefs through fashion. For some historical background, Williams was playing a tennis tournament at Indian Wells against another white girl. And despite being a higher seeded player in the tournament, the crowd booed Williams and voiced some racist slurs to her father. Even after Williams won, she was booed. Williams never returned to that tournament since but she has emphasized her fight spirit and her passion to stand up against racism and misogyny through fashion. For example, in one of the major tournaments she wore a catsuit and her reasoning to wear that was that it made her feel like a warrior princess and it reminded her of the Marvel superhero, Black Panther. Black Panther is perhaps the most famous black Marvel superhero and Serena Williams paid tribute to him and her beliefs for standing up for black people through her fashion. With many instances like this, Serena Williams continues to inspire people and do the right things on and off the court.
