Everywhere we look, manmade things and technology have historically found inspiration from natural elements of this world. From animals to plants, I analyze technological advancements that “feel” or “look” like elements from nature (as silly as my conclusions might be).

Smartphone: Like a brain, the smartphone acts as a computing system. As something always working in the background of our day-to-day life, it acts with the same coordination and rhythm as a phone.

Airplane: A commercial airplane flies in the sky, much like that of a bird. Even the aerodynamics and form of an airplane match that of a bird’s form, including all of its curves and sharp edges.

Camera: A camera is literally a computerized eye. Unlike the eye, it can solidify moments and memories.

OK, that’s all I have! But I’m sure we can all think of other things too 🙂

I really think it’s interesting how so many of our technology is inspired by nature. Other examples might include submarines being inspired by underwater creatures like whales. Flippers for swimming might have been inspired by ducks. I bet our uses of sensors might have been inspired by sonar systems in bats, dolphins, and whales.
