What’s your favorite color? Do you have one?

While there is somewhat of a debate regarding what a ‘favorite color’ is and what that entails, I personally define a ‘favorite color’ to be the color that you feel attracted to and makes you feel positive emotions. It does not have the be the color that the majority of your clothes are or the color that most of your belongings lean towards. It doesn’t have to be the color of your bedroom wall or phone case either. It simply has to be a color that you see and you think ‘wow, that’s nice.’

Now that we have established what a ‘favorite color’ is, let’s discuss what someone’s favorite color (supposedly) says about them. Since there are a lot of different shades, tones, and mixtures of color, I will narrow my focus to the primary R O Y G B I V colors in addition to black and white (which I consider to be colors as well).

Hella fun, and I’d never considered my favorite color as the one I feel the most positive emotions towards. That’s a neat perspective

This is pretty interesting. Personally, I never quite really had a consistent favorite color. Instead, depending on the mood I will feel I like a particular color better. For example, when I am feeling a bit pumped up, the color red appeals to me more than others, whereas when I am feeling peaceful, blue and green stand out to me. Of course, black and white can never go wrong either.

This is an interesting way to connect color with personality. but it makes sense. I think as a society, we often associate red with boldness, yellow with happiness, and blue with calm/peace, etc. I wonder if this association changes with cultural differences. I personally have never particularly been attracted to any one color, but since people often always ask others what their favorite color is, I often default to yellow. For the sake of simplicity, I understand why you limited the scope, but I wonder how the shade of the color can change its meaning. Red is typically associated with boldness, passion, and strength, mainly because of it’s bright appearance; however, I wonder how its meaning would change if it’s changed to a darker red like burgundy or maroon or to a lighter red like coral.

My favorite color is blue and reading this blog post, it is quite interesting to imagine myself as described “peaceful, reliable, stable, harmonious, compassionate, gentle, trustworthy you are also quite introspective”. But I have to say, I think of myself as completely different than some of the words used to describe me through a color here. I wonder what is the reason or is it simply that it is the fact I find blue my favorite because it is the opposite to my own personality.
