After watching Susan Kare’s lecture on icons and symbols, I realized the importance of playfulness and simplicity in design. Simon Porte Jacquemus, self taught French designer, created his own label “Jacquemus” when he was 18. I immediately thought of Jacquemus after watching Susan’s video because of his ability to design timeless pieces which emulate playfulness, youth, and simplicity.

Jacquemus is one of my favorite designers in the modern era of fashion. His impact goes beyond the runway show as he is an important figure in the LGBTQ+ movement in France and Europe at large. He consistently strives to bend the gender norms of fashion and he does so with elegance. My favorite show is his Spring Summer 2020 show which was displayed on a lavender field!

I’ve also heard about Jacquemus, and the usage of simplicity is definitely amazing and evident in the products.
