Since our iconography project, I have been on the lookout for logos in public and potential motivations behind them. Vagrant, a coffee shop on 44th and Baltimore, has the white hot air balloon logo (as pictured on the bottom). Vagrant, someone who wanders, works perfectly with the image of this floating transportation.

I noticed that Saxby’s, a semi-large coffee chain, also has a hot-air-balloon like logo. The steam from coffee create the ‘balloon’ and the mug is the holder. This logo simply relates to the imagery of coffee.

Despite their differences in motivation, I am interested if there is any coincidence between these two logos.

Maybe hot air balloon + coffee = yummy food and morning brew 🙂

I feel like the idea of hot air balloons and coffee make sense. Many people go to coffee shops to meet up with friends they have not seen for awhile and to hear about what is going on in each others lives. These people could be considered two hot air balloons wondering towards each other.
