This video connected for me parts of what Dondis discussed in Primer to Visual Literacy about how the camera / photography changed the word of visual communication and came to dominate the human psyche. Berger’s explanation of how with photography and video, things that used to only be able to be seen in the exact location where they occurred could now be seen anywhere by anyone. And his example of how paintings, whose principal characteristics are to be still & silent, could be easily reproduced and taken out of their contexts such that their meaning changed.
