The New York Public Design Committee voted on April 10th to allow a sculpture called ‘Fearless Girl’ to remain by the steps of the New York Stock Exchange. The statue first showed up before International Women’s day in 2017 and was placed across from the Charging Bull statue, but was later moved and is now on Broad Street after complaints from the bull’s artist. Originally it was supposed to only last one week, but its permit was extended to 30 days and then almost a whole year before it was moved. The girl had mixed reviews from people and many were curious how it was placed where it is now in the first place. Some saw it as a representation of discrimination in the work place, while others viewed it as a protest to the stock market itself. State Street Global Advisors are said to have commissioned the work, but that is under dispute. It attracts thousands to the site every year and because of popular demand the statue is going to stay in place for a long time.
