This image is an astonishing larger-than-life interactive art exhibit in Hudson Yards New York City. I got the pleasure to see this magnificent work when visiting New York recently.

This piece, with the temporary name “The Vessel”, is made up purely of staircases all around it, with over 154 flights of stairs. Not only is this piece beautiful to look at and eye catching from a very far distance, it also allows the viewer to interact with it.

Going inside this “honeycomb,” you can look up and see an ever widening honeycomb of staircases and people all around you. When open, access to the Vessel is free for everyone, catering to the mindset of accessible art. The honeycomb aesthetic also is a nod to the bee community, comparing human interaction in this setting.
