Sky Hopinka is a Native American visual artist and filmmaker who explores what it means to be a visitor.

In relation to his short film titled “Anti Objects,” he explains, “I guide a viewer through a space, not to teach them about what it is, but rather, to share with them my experience of moving through that space.”

Sky Hopinka examines what being welcomed into a space is like, taking interest into the role of a visitor. He gives the example of his white friend invited to an indigenous wedding; he himself reflects on being from Northern Washington, which is not his indigenous homeland. He “was made aware of how [he] was inside and outside, in this liminal space.” From these representations of the interactions of different cultures and spaces, one gains a fuller understanding of what it truly means to be a visitor.
