Strutting down the runway in the Tokyo Spring 2022 fashion show, Ryunosuke Okazaki’s designs are sleek and unique, with its roots in futurism. Ryunosuke is not an ordinary fashion designer- trained in graphic design at Tokyo University of the Arts, Okazaki applies symmetry and fine details to create wearable art. Every piece seems like a sketch that comes to life: from the flow and movement of the fabric facilitated by gravity, to the unique silhouettes of spirals and infinite loops, his fashion designs remotely express the shapes of plants. Ryunosuke also only uses solid colors which show the minimalism and purity of nature, as well as help focus our attention on the form of the designs. Each element is carefully selected, whether it be rich crimson on a statement piece to represent the Shinto religion, or columns of fabric petals to mimic the mottled hues of insect exoskeletons.
