Samantha Yates is a stained glass artist based in Shipley, West Yorkshire, and is recognized for her long-stemmed botanicals and flowers. She uses her background in environmental science and horticulture to design, create, and curate stained glass flower bouquets that evoke moods similar to those of fresh flowers. Her arrangements are inspired by the flowers in her very own garden and her designs only consist of the essential elements of a flower given the limitations of her materials. By using copper foil techniques, Yates is able to create different botanical forms, structures, aesthetics, and textures that encapsulate and reveal the simple beauty of nature as well as its ability to bring us love and happiness. Her process of creating these bouquets reminds me of how we had to break down our own still life into essential parts to be able to code it.
