I recently came across a post from one of the artists I follow who goes by apple.cheeks (pictured above). She thought it was interesting that her art has progressively gotten simpler as she has gotten older, which she attributed to her drawing not so much to show off her technique, but more to show everyone how she perceives the world. I encountered a similar feeling when drawing comics as I took art lessons all throughout my childhood up till college and yet the things I drew were essentially just circles with color in them. At the time, I chose that art style because it was simple and thus less time consuming to create each piece, but I’m realizing the simplistic style I chose might relate to how I want to see the people and things around me. The instagram post above also reminded me of our Icon project as we turned objects/concepts with complex meanings into simplified representations.
