After exploring the work of Stefan Stegmeister yesterday in class, I was reminded of an exhibition and documentary I saw last year at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark entitled, “Generation Wealth” by Lauren GreenField. An American Photographer and documentarist, Greenfield depicts the escalation of consumerism/materialism over the decades and its affect on our perception of beauty. Similar to the topics explored by Stegmeister, but in a different format, it is interesting to take note of the similar social commentary each artist is making in their work.
I very much recommend Greenfield’s documentary, which can be found on Amazon Prime. It really left me speechless, wondering at what lengths humans will go to feel wealthy and/or beautiful.
